Karishma Banga

Karishma is an Economist specialising in the nexus of digital technologies, international trade, and economic development. She is a Lecturer in Digital Economy at the Department of Digital Humanities, King’s College London, and serves as Digital Trade Policy Advisor to the Commonwealth Businesswomen’s Network (UK). She is a member of the Trade and Public Policy (TaPP) Network. Karishma’s research focuses on the development implications of Industry 4.0, digital trade negotiations, and Global Value Chains (GVCs). Karishma has led and contributed to high-impact projects with a range of international and multilateral institutions, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Commonwealth Secretariat, UNCTAD, Afreximbank, the African Union, and the World Trade Organization (WTO). She has published in leading journals such as the Journal of International Economic Law, The World Economy, Review of Development Economics, European Journal of Development Research, and the Journal of International Trade and Economic Development. Her work has been presented to influential bodies including the UK Government, the African Union, the OECD-G20 Working Group, and the Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India. She has previously held research appointments at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Brighton, the International Economic Development Group at ODI, London, and the Centre for Trade and Economic Integration, Geneva. Karishma holds a PhD in Development Economics from the University of Manchester and an MPhil in Economics from the University of Cambridge.
